City of Vancouver closures during World Cup 2026

by Gerald Kichok on June 11, 2026

Quote: "To ensure we can safely support an event of this magnitude there will be temporary road closures and some roads will be designated “local traffic only” for vehicles around BC Place Vancouver and False Creek. Emergency services such as police, fire and ambulance will still be able to access all affected roads.

The FIFA World Cup 2026™ Vancouver Host Committee is working to keep businesses, residents and other groups in the area informed to support their planning. See the maps below for tournament period and match day road closures. The tournament period begins with event set-up starting May 23, 2026 and ends with takedown at the end of July."

May 18 2023 – Vancouver’s FIFA World Cup 26™ Official Host City Brand was unveiled, marking the beginning of the city’s journey to hosting the biggest single sport event in history in a little over three years’ time.

“As we prepare to kick off the FIFA World Cup in 26, we're incredibly excited to showcase Vancouver to the world. Our city's natural beauty, vibrant culture, and long history of supporting sport and major events will make the World Cup a truly unforgettable experience," said Mayor Ken Sim. "The launch of this brand is just the beginning -- we invite all those across the city, province, and country to join us in the excitement of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Each of the 16 Host Cities is rolling out its own unique FIFA World Cup 26™ Official Brand look and feel. Vancouver’s design showcases vibrant, nature-inspired colours on dynamic patterns that represent the majestic mountains and the waters that surround the city.

“The FIFA World Cup 2026 will be a festival of football that will take the sport to new heights in the Concacaf region and beyond,” said Victor Montagliani, FIFA Vice-President and Concacaf President. “With 104 matches to be played across 16 cities in Canada, Mexico and the USA, it provides a tremendous opportunity to engage people and bring new fans to the beautiful game.”
